About Angels of Mercy
Vanessa overhears, by means of an inverted glass placed against the floor, a conversation that leads her to believe that David, her downstairs neighbor, is afflicted with a terminal medical condition. She relays this information to Raquel, the apartment manager, who has dropped by to collect the rent and a half-cup of sugar. One way or another, the story spreads among the building's female population, each of whom wants to provide the bewildered but appreciative David comfort in his final days.
Directed by Hal Freeman, Angels of Mercy leans on a strong ensemble — Keli Richards, Buffy Davis, Lori Marr — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1985.
