Betty Bencong Slebor

Our protagonist becomes a transvestite named Betty, just to increase his chances at finding work. She is accepted as a housemaid because the house owner likes seeing her flirtatious and sexy behaviour, though his wife disapproves. On his birthday party, the husband quarrels with his wife because Betty dances with him flirtatiously. To make extra money, Betty often works the street with other transvestites. One unfortunate day, she is caught in a police raid. In front of the police, Betty admits to her mistakes. Even more unfortunate, her employer’s business also goes bankrupt.

Directed by Benyamin Sueb, Betty Bencong Slebor leans on a strong ensemble — Benyamin Sueb, Bokir, Nasir — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1978.
