About The Ringing of a Bell
Wonyong and Yeonsil are in love with each other. The gangster Gyeong-seon also has a crush on Yeon-sil, but one day, a fight breaks out between Won-yong and Gyeong-seon. When Won-yong is in danger, Yeon-sil blocks his body and gets hit by a knife. She walks down the snowy hill, weeping as she embraces the body of Yeon-sil.
Directed by Sang-Jin Kim, The Ringing of a Bell leans on a strong ensemble — Kim Yeon-sil, Lee Won-yong, Kyeong-seon Lee — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 1929.
