About Tütün Zamanı
Zeliş and Cemal are neighbors. The two young people, who are in love with each other, dream of getting married. However, Zeliş's father, Recep, plans to marry her off to Bekir, one of the wealthy men in the village. Upon learning that Zeliş is in love with someone else, Bekir decides to kidnap her with the help of Fehmi. Zeliş and Cemal, who happen to find out about this plan, decide to run away. However, Bekir and Recep will not give up on the two young people.
Directed by Orhon Murat Arıburnu, Tütün Zamanı leans on a strong ensemble — Yılmaz Güney, Cavidan Dora, Ahmet Tarık Tekçe — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1959.
