
Gerardo, an aspiring actor, trying unsuccessfully to cross over from comedy to tragedy, is involved, due to his ability to mimic dialects of Italy, in a scam concocted by Lallo against a rich cloth-merchant.
Directed by Dino Risi, Love and Larceny leans on a strong ensemble — Vittorio Gassman, Anna Maria Ferrero, Fosco Giachetti — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1960.
