About Caucasian romance
Relatives of the beautiful Mardjan consider Elberd unworthy of her hand. Father, uncle and grandmother keep the girl locked up. And for protection they use a whole pack of dogs. But the cunning Elberd manages to lure the dogs into large baskets, hang them high on the branches of trees, and take his beloved out of the house.
Directed by Revaz Gabriadze, Amiran Darsavelidze, Caucasian romance leans on a strong ensemble — Maia Kankava, Kakhi Kavsadze, Khatuna Khobua — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 1975.
