Adapted from a stage play of same title. Set in 1950s, three veterans are demobilized at the expiration of their term of service and returns home. The agricultural commune becomes high-yield and outstanding under the leading of Lu, Zhou and Huang. Zhou and Huang signs up when the country calls on people resettlement and land reclamation, but Lu does not want to let them go.
Directed by Wang Shaoyan, Three Comrades leans on a strong ensemble — Wu Suqin, Wu Fan — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1958.
