Fumiya, a beautiful boy with no fixed address, sells his body to random men in the park. One day, he is in trouble but is saved by a middle-aged university professor, who sets him on a new life. Having learned about the lives of men who live for love across time, Fumiya walks out proudly into the sunlight filtering through the trees.
Directed by Mototsugu Watanabe, The Gaze of a Beautiful Boy leans on a strong ensemble — Tsutomu Nagai, Shinji Kubo, Kikujiro Honda — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2003.
