In 1949 in Hungary during a dictatorship a mother was jailed, her two-year-old son is taken to a foster home where he receives a new name. His mother is freed after 4 years but she fails to find her son because he received a new identity. She pressures the head of the institute with the help of a journalist friend of hers, to reunite the child with his mother. When the child gets reunited with his own mother he doesn't recognize her.
Directed by Adél Takács, At His Own Request leans on a strong ensemble — Csilla Radnay, Litauszky Lilla, Eszter Kiss — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2021.
