About Yakuza Princess of Edo
Tsukitaro, a young man who comes to Edo, meets a blind girl named Ochiyo. Ochiyo’s father, the grinder Yasujiro, was asked to sharpen a sword called Kongomaru, which was planned to be presented to the shogun Iemitsu, but he died due to a yakuza attack. In addition, the sword was stolen, and Ochiyo’s sister was also kidnapped.
Directed by Eiichi Kudō, Yakuza Princess of Edo leans on a strong ensemble — Hibari Misora, Kōtarō Satomi, Noriko Kitazawa — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1961.
