The film centers on Zhen Shi (played by Jiang Xueming), a cheerful and rebellious young man who dreams of becoming a chef. With impressive cooking skills, he often mocks his father—a policeman who can’t even boil an egg. Ironically, it’s this very father who forces Zhen Shi to abandon his culinary ambitions and enroll in the police academy. Reluctant and out of place, Zhen Shi becomes the most unwilling student on campus, leading to a series of comedic mishaps. However, through challenges and personal growth, he gradually transforms into a brave and responsible young officer. His journey from wannabe chef to real policeman is filled with humor, heartfelt moments, and thrilling twists.
Directed by Haojun Meng, Being A Cop leans on a strong ensemble — Jiang Xueming, Jia Fengzhu, Jiang Yi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2015.
