Manuel travels to the small fishing village where his recently deceased wife, Paula, spent her childhood. There he meets Rosa, the owner of a restaurant; Héctor, whom he entrusts with rebuilding his wife's dilapidated family home; Toto, a colorful and helpful fisherman who was Paula's schoolmate; and Julia, a young architect who lost her daughter shortly after birth, and with her all hope of happiness.
Directed by Francisco D'Intino, La esperanza leans on a strong ensemble — Ulises Dumont, María José Demare, Héctor Grillo — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2005.
