About Playa’ in the Pulpit
Self-centered Tyrone had learned that his great-cousin Emma has passed away. There is no cause for alarm until he is informed by a lawyer that a will has been left behind. For all Tyrone’s so-called kindness, he is left with broken furniture. To make matters worse, her most cherished belonging, a secret lockbox, was given to a local church. Tyrone sets out on a hilarious crime adventure to become a minister in order to steal the lockbox.
Directed by Grits Carter, Playa’ in the Pulpit leans on a strong ensemble — Maurice Lavelle, Hattie Lemon, Dexter Tucker — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 2004.
