A photographer and his girlfriend come across an old temple in the woods. Peering in they see strange erotic rituals being done. After staying the night they decide to join the temple but first they must endure intense sexual training.
Directed by Ryûjin Himeno, The Kyokugen: Meiki-zukuri leans on a strong ensemble — Megumi Takahashi, Yôko Harada, Yûichi Nana — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1987.
