About The Thief Girl
Selim Bey, a wealthy lawyer with twin daughters named Yıldız and Mehtap, has star and moon tattoos done on his shoulders so as not to confuse them. While Yıldız is at the beach with her nanny, pickpocket Saçaklı Raziye kidnaps her while her nanny is swimming. Her goal is to train her to be a pickpocket like her husband Yamalı Mahmut.
Directed by Türker İnanoğlu, The Thief Girl leans on a strong ensemble — Filiz Akın, Kartal Tibet, Mürüvvet Sim Caymaz — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1968.
