About Saved from a Life of Crime
Becoming imbued with a lawless spirit, Tom, a street waif of twelve, holds up an old woman with a toy pistol, robs her of a dollar and gets away. Exhibiting the money to some of his companions, the boy proceeds to give them all an ice cream treat. The feast is interrupted by the police, who nab Tom.
Directed by Theodore Marston, Saved from a Life of Crime leans on a strong ensemble — James Morrison, Dorothy Kelly, George Cooper — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1914.
