This is a movie about a group of young people with all sorts of problems. They all live in some old house with a number of volunteers helping them to get back on track. The young people yell and scream a lot and destroy about every object you get to see in the film. At one point they start singing happily and running down a railway station together, but soon after that, the destruction and name calling commences again until basically nothing of the house is left.
Directed by Ine Schenkkan, Jan Rap en z'n maat leans on a strong ensemble — Jasperina de Jong, Heidi Arts, Paul de Leeuw — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1989.
