River

A middle aged Bisnu leads a simple life in a fishing village on the banks of the Brahmaputra. One cloudy morning, during the fag end of the monsoons, he finds a corpse enmeshed in his net. Taken over by an obsession about the boy and his village, Bisnu embarks on a journey across Assam that would open him up to a world he had no idea about and would have been better off not knowing.

Directed by Reema Borah, River leans on a strong ensemble — Nirab Das, Anupam Kaushik Borah, Amrita Goswami — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2022.
