The year is 1983. Yulia Morozova studies foreign languages at Leningrad University, plays sports and does not even imagine that in the very near future she will have to work in the KGB. She looks very much like the deceased wife of American spy Jim Wheeler, who arrives in Leningrad to meet with an agent working at a secret research institute. Counterintelligence agents led by Volokhov are playing a complex espionage game, intending to identify a "mole" in the defense industry. To do this, they plan to introduce Yulia into the American's inner circle, hoping that he will take the bait.
Directed by —, Russian Doll leans on a strong ensemble — Dmitry Palamarchuk, Sofya Shutkina, Ivan Kolesnikov — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
