It was based on a novel by Hans Scholz and has been called a Straßenfeger in German, a television program that was watched by so many, the streets were empty. It was produced by German broadcaster Nord- und Westdeutscher Rundfunkverband in Cologne, Germany.
Directed by Hans Scholz, Am grünen Strand der Spree leans on a strong ensemble — Werner Lieven, Günter Pfitzmann, Bum Krüger — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The series landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1960.
