About The Twelve Chairs
Set in late-1920s Soviet Union, Ostap Bender and Ippolit "Kisa" Vorobyaninov are after a stash of diamonds hidden in one of the chairs in 12-chair set. They are forced to go on a cross-country chase when the chairs are auctioned off.
Directed by Mark Zakharov, The Twelve Chairs leans on a strong ensemble — Andrey Mironov, Anatoliy Papanov, Rolan Bykov — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The series landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1977.
