Émilie Jolie follows a young girl who, frightened by the night, opens a picture book to find comfort. She realizes she can interact with the characters, who are all waiting for her to help them find happiness.

A day like any other in the Parisian metro – or maybe not? A young man sits quietly reading his book. A young woman is seated next to him. They have nothing in common, nor do they know each other in the slightest. In spite of this, something quiet unexpected occurs between them. In full view of all the other passengers. And yet, none of the other travellers seem to notice.

In the course of a violent hold-up at Deauville station, several innocent bystanders are shot dead. The victims include a politician, Robert Andréani, and three members of the same family. Devastated by the death of his wife, daughter and mother, Martin Modot resolves that their killers will be brought to justice. When the police fail to make any progress in their investigation, he decides to take matters into his own hands, with the support of a neo-fascist vigilante organization.
