Set in Odesa at the end of the Civil War when the town is occupied by the Whites. The night coachman, fifty-year-old Hordii Yaroshchuk, lives with his daughter Katia who gets involved with a Bolshevik and revolutionary.

Set in an imaginary land where the threat of revolution spurs the Emperor to seek exile in one of the most distant parts of his realm. One of the characters in the film, novice Morne, rescues a fisherman girl, Armela, who loses her mind from terror and seriously begins to believe that she is the "goddess of the winds". Morne, in love with the girl, leaves the monastery and returns to his former profession of an artist. Soon Armela recovers and marries Morne.
