About Who is in the Background?
Based on the original work of Yasunori Kawauchi of "Moonlight Mask", this is the second in the "Ginza Whirlwind Child (Mitsutogai)" series in which Asahi Kobayashi plays an active role in the death of a divine ghost in a skillful disguise. Takuya Nikaido appears in Kobe and approaches the mystery of the fake bill case.
Directed by Haruyasu Noguchi, Who is in the Background? leans on a strong ensemble — Akira Kobayashi, Ruriko Asaoka, Kyōji Aoyama — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about action titles of 1959.
